Topic: Evacuation Issues In a Non-Fire Related Emergency
- A Case Study
On Friday, August 21, 2009, the 52 story Prudential Tower
in Boston was evacuated due to a catastrophic water leak.
The event occurred while the building was fully occupied
on one of the hottest and muggiest days of the year and
posed several evacuation issues. In many ways, this type
of hazard presented evacuation issues that were more challenging
to overcome than those which would have been created during
an actual fire emergency. The presentation will focus
on the evacuation problems created by the hazard and how
Security, Property Management and Public Safety agencies
worked together to mitigate the emergency and recover
from it. The presentation will also include actual video
of the event, the evacuation and response by public safety
agencies. John Tello will conduct the presentation and
narrate the video footage. He will discuss the critical
roles played by Security and Property Management both
during and after the emergency and will identify several
lessons learned. John will also provide time for questions
and answers after the presentation.
